***If you don't have administrative privileges on the computer connecting to the printer and/or have errors when installing drivers, ETS can assist you through TeamViewer once you've submitted a Printer access request***

Add a printer by IPP:

  1. Open Windows Settings, select "Devices", and then select "Printers & Scanners".
  2. Select the "Add a Printer" button at the top of the window.
  3. Immediately click the "The printer that I want isn't listed" button near the bottom.
  4. Select the "Add a printer using an IP address or hostname" option and click next.
  5. Ensure "IPP Device" is selected, and type the IP address into the field labeled "Hostname or IP address".
  6. Select next. If it takes more than a minute to contact the printer then switch to adding a printer by TCP/IP.

Add a printer by TCP/IP:

  5. Select the "Add a printer using a TCP/IP address of hostname" option and click next.
  6. Ensure "TCP/IP Device" is selected, and type the IP address into the box labeled "Hostname or IP address"
  7. Leave everything else as it is, and select next.
  8. At this point, you may have to select an appropriate driver (The following steps require administrative privileges, if you do not have admin on a computer, request it as a student, or faculty/staff, or put in a service request for Printer access):
    1. Try to find the driver for the make and model of printer you are adding.
    2. If it is not there by default, you can usually select the "Windows Update" to pull more drivers from Windows Update that can be installed (this takes several minutes).
    3. If the driver is still not listed, you will need to download the driver from the manufacturer's website, extract it if possible, select "Have Disk" and browse to the folder location of the unpacked driver installer.
  9. Name it something human-friendly, and opt NOT to share it.

If you already tried mapping the printer and it was unsuccessful, you may have to select "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings". Use an existing port and find the port for the printer you tried mapping previously, or start over if it's not listed in the dropdown. Then, follow the driver installation guide (step 7) to find the correct driver. Note that it is safest to use a universal driver download from the manufacturer's website or through the "Windows Update" to ensure the right print drivers are installed.

If you would like to rename the printer, do so by finding and clicking on the printer you just mapped. Select Manage, Printer properties, and then under the general tab, in the first box, you can rename the printer.
