Windows 10:
- Make sure your microphone or headset is properly connected to your device (if it isn't built in).
- If your microphone or headset has a mute button, make sure it is not active.
- Make sure your microphone or headset is set as the system default recording device:
- Select the Start button in the bottom left corner, then click on Settings (small gear icon two up from the Start button)
- Choose System, then Sound
- Scroll down to the Input section and make sure your microphone is selected under the "Choose your input device" drop down
- You can then test if it is working by speaking in to the microphone and looking for the feedback bar under the "Test your microphone" section
- Make sure apps have access to your microphone:
- Select the Start button in the bottom left corner, then click on Settings (small gear icon two up from the Start button)
- Choose Privacy, then Microphone
- Make sure it says "Microphone access for this device is on" towards the top. If it does not, select the "Change" button to turn it on
- Turn on "Allow apps to access your microphone"
- Change which apps have access to your microphone under "Choose which apps can access your microphone"
MacOS:
- Make sure your application of choice has access to your microphone:
- Open System Preferences
- Select "Security & Privacy"
- Under the Privacy tab, choose Microphone on the left side
- Check the box next to the application you want to use the microphone with
